Dress Shirts

Slim fit shirts are tapered through the chest, waist, and arms for a closer silhouette. Classic fit shirts have more room throughout, boxier through the torso and looser in the sleeves.

The collar should fit snugly with one finger of room, the shoulder seam should sit at the edge of your shoulder, and the cuff should end at the base of your thumb. The body should taper without pulling at the buttons.

Spread and semi-spread collars work with most tie knots. Point collars are more traditional and best for narrower ties. Cutaway collars are very wide and pair well with larger knots like the half-Windsor or Windsor.

French cuff shirts are dressier. Wear them for weddings, formal business events, and black-tie occasions. They require cufflinks. Standard barrel cuffs are fine for everyday office wear.

Non-iron shirts are treated to resist wrinkles, so they look pressed straight out of the dryer. They cost more than untreated shirts but save time. The treatment lasts dozens of washes before fading.
